Introduction
Heukseongsan (519m) faces Eunyulsan Mountain beyond Sanbangcheon Stream to its east, Seongeosan Mountain past Taejobong to its north, and overlooks the City of Cheonan past Majeomsan Mountain to its west. It joins Chwiamsan and Goryeosan mountains past Seungcheoncheon Stream to its south.
The peak of Heukseongsan Mountain was a fortress site, which remains partially today. Heukseongsan was originally called Geomeunsan, meaning “black mountain,” but the name was changed to Heukseongsan during the Japanese colonial period. It should be noted that many patriots including Kim Si-min, Yi Dong-ryeong, Lee Beom-seok, Yu Gwan-sun and Jo Byeong-ok were born around this area.
According to Pungsujiri (geomancy), this area has been considered as propitious site as the “left blue dragon” to Seoul and as a “golden hen incubating its eggs.”
